Fans were treated to edge-of-your-seat action as three nail-biting matches were decided by the slimmest of margins, setting the tone for an electrifying season ahead.
The U12 Bedford Thunder and Cambridge Kestrels put on a high-scoring thriller, with both teams showcasing incredible skill and resilience. In a game that went back and forth from the first whistle, neither side was able to pull away, keeping fans on the edge of their seats. Bedford Thunder's offense finally struck late in the game to seal the victory by just 3 points, but the Kestrels fought valiantly to the final buzzer. An outstanding battle that could have easily gone either way! What a start!
The Cambourne Falcons flew high in their matchup against the St Neots Eagles, dominating the court with a strong defensive display. The Falcons were in control from the start, allowing just 3 points while their offense methodically added to their lead. Though the Eagles struggled to find their rhythm, they put up a determined fight, and there's no doubt they'll come back stronger in the next round!
In perhaps the most dramatic game of the day, the U14 St Neots Eagles took on the Cambourne Falcons in a nail-biter that went all the way to extra time! With both teams trading baskets and neither giving an inch, the game was tied at the end of regulation. The Eagles, fueled by the energy of the crowd, managed to find the winning basket in the dying seconds of extra time, edging out the Falcons by just 2 points. An instant classic, and a match that could have swung either way!
The U16 league started with an absolute showdown between the NH Knights and Northstowe Kites. In a game that saw lead changes and heroic plays from both sides, the Knights managed to secure the win by just 2 points in a heart-stopping finale. The Kites pushed the Knights to their limits with a final surge, but the Knights held their ground, showing great composure under pressure. This game was an early contender for Game of the Season, as it truly could have gone either way!
