About us

History:

Fastbreak Basketball's origins start in 2016 when the adults-only Cambourne Raptors were formed.  Driven to share their passion for basketball with younger players, the Cambourne Raptors junior team was set up in 2018. Practising once a week and full of enthusiasm, these fledgling basketball players wanted to play games against other teams. They were not experienced enough to compete in the National Basketball League and there wasn't a local league in the South Cambs area for them to join.

After the pandemic, without a local league for the Cambourne players, Fastbreak Basketball was formed to create a complete eco-system for basketball in the area: a local league, made up of a set of community clubs, for all levels of skill and experience, practising once a week, who all have an opportunity to win.

For the 22/23 season, with a few years under our players' belts, Fastbreak decided to enter the Cambourne Falcons into the U16 National League. They placed 8th out of 11 teams, winning six games, which is quite impressive considering they were both the youngest and shortest team in the competition. For the 23/24 season, Fastbreak continued their U16 National League team's trajectory finishing up a place, in addition to entering a team of talented U14 National League players.  The 24/25 season brings new opportunities and challenges as our players grow and develop.

Ethos:

Our main drivers are inclusivity and fun.  Every team has the opportunity to win, but the focus is on having fun, teamwork, sportsmanship and the love of the game. Our philosophy is that everyone should have the opportunity to play basketball and the sport is not just for those who would like to compete at the highest level.

What our parents say...

Inclusiveness

“Fastbreak is a great club where every child is included. I have watched my son develop with U10's and get great enjoyment out of watching them play. I would recommend Fastbreak to anyone looking to get their child into an exciting fast sport that requires thinking fast!” - Mark James

Life Changing

“Basketball has changed my son's life. He has found a passion for sport that he never found with football or rugby. The training and support from his coaches have been unbelievable and given him so much confidence in his abilities.  He's learned basketball skills, but  also commitment, teamwork, and generosity.” - Diana Mason

Well Being and Mental Health

“Thank you for everything last term. Basketball has made a huge difference to my son's mental health and fitness levels after a tough couple of years. He loves basketball  and so do I! Such a great group of people and such a postive experience. Thank you for all you do coaches and volunteers.” - Kim Robichaud

Self Confidence and Motivation to Work Hard

"Fastbreak Basketball has been fantastic for our son. With opportunities to play at school limited to PE, we signed him up in Feb 2020 and although lockdown hit a month later, he made the most of the very well organised outdoor training camps and then subsequent playing opportunities that followed later in the early summer. The coaching is first class and the opportunities to train and play competitively have really boosted his self confidence, motivating him to work hard and to get the most out of this hugely beneficial experience.  Our son is enjoying being part of the U16 team and is really looking forward to the start of the new season. Thanks to Navid, Neb, Miguel and the other coaches for all their hard work behind the scenes and on the court. We would recommend Fastbreak Basketball to any parent looking for a club for their child to join" - John & Kathryn Quinn
